Pulse Jet Valve

Common Solenoid Pulse Valve Failures and Effective Maintenance Solutions

October 30, 2026

Solenoid pulse valves are widely used in industrial dust collection systems to control compressed air pulses for filter bag cleaning. Their reliable operation is essential for maintaining dust removal efficiency and reducing equipment downtime.

However, continuous operation, contaminated compressed air, and component wear may cause performance problems.

Understanding common failures and applying preventive maintenance measures can help maintain stable valve operation.

1. Pulse Valve Fails to Open

When a solenoid pulse valve fails to open, the dust collector may experience insufficient filter cleaning.

Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect or insufficient power supply.

  • Damaged solenoid coil.

  • Blocked pilot air passages.

  • Insufficient compressed air pressure.

Maintenance Solution:

Check the electrical supply and coil condition. Inspect the pilot passages for contamination and verify that compressed air pressure meets the manufacturer's requirements.

2. Continuous Air Leakage

Air leakage is a common problem that can increase energy consumption and reduce cleaning performance.

Possible Causes:

  • Damaged or worn diaphragm.

  • Contaminated sealing surfaces.

  • Loose connections.

  • Damaged valve seals.

Maintenance Solution:

Inspect the diaphragm and sealing components after safely isolating and depressurizing the system. Clean the sealing surfaces and replace damaged parts when necessary.

3. Weak Pulse Cleaning Performance

Weak compressed air pulses may prevent effective dust removal from filter bags.

Possible Causes:

  • Insufficient air tank pressure.

  • Blocked air supply lines.

  • Incorrect pulse duration.

  • Restricted valve passages.

Maintenance Solution:

Check the compressed air system, inspect valve passages, and verify pulse controller settings.

Ensure that the valve operates within the recommended pressure range.

4. Solenoid Coil Overheating

Excessive coil temperature may lead to electrical failure and unexpected valve shutdown.

Possible Causes:

  • Incorrect supply voltage.

  • Excessive energization time.

  • Poor electrical connections.

  • Coil deterioration.

Maintenance Solution:

Verify the rated voltage and electrical connections. Check pulse duration settings and replace damaged coils with compatible components.

5. Preventive Maintenance Recommendations

To reduce unexpected failures, establish a regular maintenance schedule that includes:

  • Inspecting valve bodies and electrical connections.

  • Checking diaphragms and seals.

  • Maintaining clean and dry compressed air.

  • Monitoring pulse cleaning performance.

  • Replacing worn components when necessary.
